National Festivals and Arts

Over the past forty years, the Foundation has produced numerous community events and festivals aimed at celebrating our unique Caymanian cultural heritage and our contemporary cultural experience. These include the Cayman Islands National Festival of Arts (Cayfest), Red Sky at Night, the Cayman Islands International Storytelling Festival ‘Gimistory’, and Christmas of Yesteryear Festival. Throughout the year, we also collaborate with, and provide support to, other community festivals including Pirates Week, Cayman Arts Festival, Cayman Art Week, and the National Children’s Festival of the Arts.

Cayman National Festival of the Arts (Cayfest)

Each February and March, Cayfest brings together the best of Caymanian creativity in a month-long celebration of arts and culture. From theatre and music to visual arts, dance, and community events, Cayfest is the highlight of the cultural calendar.

Red Sky at Night

Designed to pay homage to traditional Caymanian culture and arts, as well as celebrating the many different cultures that call the Cayman Islands home, Red Sky at Night is a multidisciplinary one-day community event that closes our annual Cayfest.

Gimistory – Cayman Islands International Storytelling Festival

Each November, storytellers from across the Caribbean and beyond take to outdoor stages across all six districts of the Cayman Islands. Free and open to all, Gimistory is a celebration of the spoken word, where traditional wisdom, humour, and imagination meet under the night sky.

National Childrens’ Festival of the Arts

The National Children’s Festival of the Arts celebrates young talent across the Cayman Islands through music, dance, drama, and visual arts. Managed by the Department of Education Services, CNCF serves on the Advisory Committee and supports the programme as a venue partner and through in-school training.

Christmas of Yesteryear

Each December, Christmas of Yesteryear invites the community to step back in time and experience the traditions of a Caymanian Christmas — from thatch-basket crafts and conch-shell displays to the music of the Cayman Islands Folk Singers.
