Students and Teachers

The Foundation offers detailed lesson guides and resources for primary, secondary and college students, as well as teachers, to assist in teaching Caymanian heritage and culture, and skills development in the musical, literary, visual and performing arts. These materials include instructional sections and engaging activities for students.

Classroom Activities and Lesson Plans

The Foundation offers in-classroom support and activities, as well as lesson plans for cross-curricular learning, such as the Elements of Caymanian Culture workshop. These presentations are intended to develop knowledge and understanding of Caymanian culture for primary school students.

In addition, our creative lesson plans, which support curriculum-based learning objectives, can be downloaded directly here.

Field Trips

The Foundation offers guided tours of our 120-year-old heritage site: the Mind’s Eye Centre – The Intuitive World of Gladwyn K. “Miss Lassie” Bush.

Gladwyn K. Bush (1914–2003), affectionately known as Miss Lassie, was a visionary artist who left an important mark on the cultural history of the Cayman Islands. Born on Grand Cayman, Bush was 62 when she began to create art inspired by Christian visions and Caymanian seafaring culture. Bush’s visionary markings now adorn the interior of her cottage, which is a nineteenth-century traditional wattle-and-daub structure, built by Bush’s father and grandfather. Bush painted Biblical scenes and vivid, colourful abstract scenes on the doors and windows of the original house, as well as every surface of the rear addition and the outdoor kitchen, known locally as a cookrum. It has been declared a Site of National Historic Interest, one of only six in the Cayman Islands.

Tours of the historic cottage are accompanied by the presentation Miss Lassie’s Intuitive Art, which helps students understand the concept of ‘intuitive’ art while learning more about Miss Lassie’s life. The presentation can also be accompanied by an art activity. Tours can be adapted to different learning groups and needs, and can be booked here.

Teacher Socials

The Foundation runs quarterly Teacher Socials, after-hours networking events that are designed to encourage inter-school connections and the sharing of knowledge in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Each session revolves around highlights from the Foundation’s calendar, ensuring that teachers have access to our latest resources and upcoming calendar highlights.
